Wooster Country Club it has been a pleasure and I look forward to visiting again sometime in the near future.
I can't believe it but it was my final day ever at Wooster Country Club. A very sad time indeed but I did get some really nice good luck messages from the members and Ann Gregor even baked me a cake which was really really nice! I couldn't be more appreciative of my time at Wooster CC and have learned an incredible amount, made lots of great contacts, friends and a place I can certainly call a second home. Wooster Country Club it has been a pleasure and I look forward to visiting again sometime in the near future. So here it is my final week at The Wooster Country Club... very sad times. Tuesday started off with the LGA and the hate'em tournament. This was a spin off for 3 putts. If you ever 3 putted during the round then you were given 5 points, however, any 1 putts resulted in 2 points being taken away. So simply the lady with the lowest points total at the end wins.
I thought I had best get as much golf in as possible this week and could not resist in the perfect afternoon weather. I played a relaxed 9 holes with a few of my co-workers and came out on the winning team. A great day overall. It was here. The final junior golf day.... very sad times. However, despite this we still had a lot of fun and had a great session. I managed to take the head coaching role for the second clinic and worked on a variety of shots. We started off with low ones, then went into really high flop shots, then of course we had to finish by pounding the driver up the range.
I have thoroughly enjoyed junior golf and have gained a great deal from it. The kids were absolutely fantastic and an absolute pleasure to coach! Here it is, the last league night of the season! All the points were totalled up and everyone was anxious to get into the two championship playoff places for each flight. Kelly was on one of the teams that was very close to the playoff place but he narrowly missed out by one point.... probably for the best or he might have had some complaints.
Overall, I have really enjoyed working the league nights as it is a great way to get to know certain members and always generates such a nice atmosphere. I would certainly look to play in the league at the golf club I will hopefully be professional at! Compared to the last this was a very quiet weekend at the club with no outings at all, however, we did have the Welshhans classic MGA event. This was in honour of our recently retired PGA professional Gary Welshhans who is now an honour member of the club. The competition was quiet simply a 2 from 4 team play which everyone seemed to enjoy very much. One of my favourite members Dr David Stewart was on the winning team which was great news to hear! He's been exceptionally kind and welcoming to me over my time here at Wooster Country Club and I shall remember him for a long time!
Onto my final week at work now..... I had Tuesday and Wednesday off so that I could meet with a potential employer for my OPT year... very exciting stuff!
So the penultimate junior golf day of the year and it was guest day. This meant that each junior could bring one guest to come and play the course with them. We sent them all off the back 9 at 8:30 then started to round them back in around 11:00 so that they could all eat the buffet lunch and the prizes could be handed out. Each junior that was not a guest and a somewhat regular member to the golf camp was given a prize which I feel is a really great touch. The grand prize of a brand new Wooster High School bag went to a very deserving young man who was ecstatic with it! Saturday really was one of my favourite days of the entire summer. I was asked to partake in the annual ladies charity golf day by standing on the ladies tee on number 12 and drive the green for each group that came through, if they were to donate $5 each to charity. I helped to make a nice $150 for the wounded warriors project and was more than happy with the days events.
The overall event went exceptionally well and we raised money for a great cause! Today marked the second round of the ladies club championship. They were all very excited again and very eager to get out onto the golf course. Of course Thursday also meant junior golf and as Kelly was busy with the ladies championship I was to lead the session again. This week we worked on consistent pitch shots and driver work. For the pitches I asked the juniors to take 10 balls and hit 50% shots, then ten balls and hit 75% shots, then another 10 back at 50%. This really works on promoting the correct strike and really gets the kids focusing on the shot rather than trying to knock the core out of the golf ball. Then driver work was plain and simply hitting it really high and far, focusing on the correct set up and swing speed.
Today was an especially quiet day with really not much going on. The weather was really hot and humid this morning which i think drove a lot of people away from playing. It did get a little more comfortable for league which went as smoothly as ever.
Looking forward to tomorrow. Another Tuesday and another LGA competition. This was a big one it was the first round of the club championship! All the ladies were very excited and some had even come down a little early to get some extra practice in. There are not many ladies that play in the LGA events and with two flights the competition was certainly dialled in.
The scores on the day were pretty good with a few runaway leads in both flights, they were clearly saving up for a big round. More posts on this to follow.... |
